Isn't CJ Hopkins a satirical writer? I'm smelling possible bait here.

Also, citing the CDC numbers is suspicious, I wouldn't take anything the US government puts out at face value. Especially not during an election year, those in power are well known to twist things to make themselves look better.

The US is a bad place to collect info regarding a pandemic, their healthcare system is a disaster and many people will refuse to see a doctor even if they're doing poorly. This means there are going to be many deaths that aren't attributed correctly, especially since many recently deceased people were not tested during the time the US was seeing the highest death rates.

Incremental death counts will always be significantly lower than the real count because not everything can be factored in. You can't directly compare an incremental count with an estimated count for that very reason. Influenza is a recurring virus and as such nearly all death counts for it are estimated, not incremental.

Another important factor to consider is vaccine availability. In the US, around 45-55% of people get the yearly influenza vaccine. That means influenza is far less of a threat. That also means that IFR may be higher than it otherwise would be, as the unvaccinated pool will have a higher percentage of those who are particularly vulnerable to the virus.

There are indeed many people who are making out COVID-19 to be worse than it is, but there are also many people who are downplaying it to a dangerous degree.

The 2009-2010 Swine Flu had a final incremental count of 12220 deaths globally. Once everything was over and all the information was in, the real death count was estimated at being between 151k and 575k, with the most likely count being near 284k.

Right now, the incremental count of global COVID-19 deaths is ~1.1m. Does this mean the real death count is ~24m? Very unlikely, you can't just scale like that as people are taking COVID-19 far more seriously than they did Swine Flu and as such the ongoing information is more accurate. We won't know the real numbers for at least two years.

To my knowledge, very few doctors involved in research have been over-blowing the severity of SARS-CoV-2. Almost all of the exaggeration comes from politicians not understanding the research or from pundits doing it on purpose to bring in more views.
