Fertility is a very common topic in art used by artists in Yorubaland - Nigeria. Fertility is used to applause the courageous spirits of women who go through hell and back in the course of childbirth.
There is an adage in Yoruba that says "Iya ni wura" meaning Mother is Gold. This lino piece is aimed at celebrating motherhood.
The woman figure pregnant with child is made as if she is coming out from a petal as in blooming. The banana leaves by her sides symbolizes one of the traditional methods used in wrapping a new born baby in my culture.
