I keep up with it by being super picky with what I buy, and I've never given a fuck about completing sets of things. I only get the characters that I actually like and care about.

But, no, yeah. Things have just gotten fucked from inflation. A year and a half ago living expenses left me feeling at least slightly comfortable. Now, things feel more tight than they have in a long time. If it gets worse, I'll be worried about it being as bad as it was when I was a teenager growing up in poverty with my mom.
