What's buzzing, friends?

A post office is a magical place. Every day, they ship out thousands of packages to people all over the world. It's wild to think about what could be inside of them. Maybe it's a new toy for a child, a birthday present for a friend, or the Hope Diamond valued over $250 million. Whatever it is, the post office is sure to get it there safe and sound.

Wait… Did we say, "The Hope Diamond is valued at over $250 million"? We sure did!

If you don't know, the Hope Diamond is a world-famous jewel. It is blue and is said to be cursed. The Hope Diamond is named after Sir Thomas Hope, a London jeweler. The Hope Diamond is the largest blue diamond in the world. It is over 45 carats, and the Hope Diamond is worth over $250 million.

In 1958, when the owner of this diamond decided to donate it to the National Museum of Natural History, he did not get a small army of guards to accompany the gem. He wrapped it up in brown paper, put it in a box, took out $1 million insurance on the package (for $145.29), and shipped the gem by the post office.

The gem arrived safely and is now on display at the museum. But WOW. We just think of all the videos we see of those 'Porch Pirates" who still package off people from porches - glad that was not a trend back in 1958. :D
