Greetings and salutations Hivers. Today let's go into another Three Tune Tuesday post.
As always, thanks to @ablaze for making this series. Lots of people participate in it! Follow the tags to find a ton of good music recommendation.
Today, something completely different.
You know, I probably use this phrase way too often. 🤔
Anyway, some time ago I decided to try to take more control of the YouTube algorithm. You see, there are several topics that I usually browse on Youtube. Music & funny things for this weekly post and for my somewhat regular You Should Laugh Today post. In addition, I watch random Japanese videos, vlogs and news, just to give myself exposure to the language to keep my listening level up there. There are a few more topic categories I watch. The YouTube Recommendations are often fairly decent, but all mixed up.
So I decided to create a few different channels and only watch any given topic of videos on each channel to better control the recommendations. So far it's worked just as well as I've hoped!
I've been doing this for a few weeks now, so my music channel has that much watch history to deal with. As I browser through it today, I see a lot of good music! So I thought it might be fun for be to browse through all today's recommendations and pick out my favorites. Sounds fun? Let's go!
By the way, this kind of channel division does require some work. Not much, but on each channel I do open the history every now and again and delete the watches that I don't want. Sometimes things I watched on one channel show up in the watch history of another channel. I clear out my cookies every evening so it's not reading from that. I assume it has more to do with having a video open in another tab that I've forgotten about when I switch channels, so this new channel picks up the open video. Hmm... this might fall under the too many tabs problem...
Anyway, on with the show!
Puddles Pity Party - Brain Damage / Eclipse
Ok, let's just get this out of the way right away: 99% of Pink Floyd covers are complete crap, and impossible to listen to. Pink Floyd is just that kind of experience that cannot be copied. With that in mind, when this popped up on my recommendations, I was doubtful, but I clicked on it anyway. And you know what... it's not bad.
The Dead South - In Hell I'll Be in Good Company
It's funny that this song would pop up in the recommendations. As many of you who follow along probably know, I am not normally a fan of country music. That said, The Dead South is more of a blend of Country, Bluegrass, and Folk. Their banjo riffs are great, they have a really nice harmony together, and I dig their often darkly satirical lyrics.
And yeah... geez, the lyrics on this one... But the song is catchy anyway. See what you think.
George Harrison - All Things Must Pass
No intended message by including this after the previous one, it just worked out that way. This is one of George's best songs, and this 2020 Mix is fantastic!
Well, this was kind of fun. Geez, with the algorithm firing these songs at me, it can almost write the post itself! So what's your favorite?
