Just finished doing Xmas morning here. The children woke up early and made chaos, enjoying their booty before having to leave. I have to leave myself soon—work is soon.
Looking over the mess and wondering if I have enough time to clean it all up before work, a haiku comes to mind.
christmas morning—
the floor looks like
a tornado hit
Try as I might, I just couldn't get chatGPT to make this image with the presents open and the floor messy. Oh well.
Santa-san came. No snow and no chimney, but he came just the same! And the kids went crazy.
I think it's the same everywhere. Kids enjoy themselves. In Japan I think people are a bit more likely to open presents neatly most of the time. Our kids often do as well, but for Christmas I think the excitement is just too much and they rip the wrapping paper off as quickly as they can, scattering it here and there.
After I finish my tea I'll clean up a little and then head out for work. I'm sure my wife will make the kids clean up more when they get back tonight.
I think it's probably still Xmas eve night for most of you reading this, so I hope you all are having a peaceful night and good luck dealing with the hyperactive kids tomorrow.
Last night I read my kids "Twas the Night Before Xmas". They didn't understand all of the older language, but I stopped and explained things and we worked through it together. I read the same poem every year. It's maybe not the greatest of traditions, but I like doing it.
Anyway, Merry Christmas, all! Hope you have, had, or are having a good one!
