It was at exactly 8pm on the 25th of July 2007, my father called out every member of the household to an unexpected meeting, puzzled by the unseemingly expression on everyone's face. Dad walked into the sitting room staring at my mum with a hostile force. "Gosh! What must this family summit be about", I pondered. Something is missing, the usually 'ofe nsala delicacy' we often eat during family submit.
Mum, what about our 'ofe nsala delicacy 'we often have during our family submit? I asked. "Ask your father, when last he gave me money to go to the market? " she replied.
Quiet both of you, my dad yelled. "I didn't call for your unprofessional opinions in this meeting". I want to make this brief and simple. I and your mum have unanimously decided to go for an official break up in order to settle our differences, "differences!" I and my younger sister Sonia simultaneously muttered. But what has that got to do with us, we know you two to put up with your differences ever since you both got married. Why the break up now? Have you considered the aftereffect, the trauma, or are you doing these for your selfish reasons? My younger sister stuttered, "Mom you are not saying anything" I asked. "I know this may be some sought of difficult and tough decision for you guys, I wish I could help it, I and your dad, really do love you guys and respect your feelings but sometimes somethings are not just meant to be, probably this is how God wants it to be." Mum replied with an almost faint voice, as cold eyesed-water rolled down her cheeks. "Mum I don't want to you to go! " my baby sister pitter-pattered bursting into her aqueous solutions, as though intending to manipulate my dads soft-side, but dad replied in a cold harsh tone, "Mummy must go, it doesn't matter if you cry from now till tomorrow".
I immediately sank into the cavernous depth of my soul, flaccid rush of liquid storms suddenly breaks away from my teary optical fibres. I couldn't believe my ears, this is too acrimonious to be truth. I've been reading of broken homes in books, or seeing it in movies. I couldn't imagine what would become of me and my younger ones, still too young to comprehend such quandary of life, What a valley of decision to be fix in? stocked to a sham reality. I sailed through the next 48hours in a random selection of thoughts, obnoxious to what my future may become, in deep abyssal syndrome of schizophrenia depression and mind Conflicts. I tried several times to speak my dad out of his igneous decision, but to no avail. I also did prayed about it. This is evidently the worst state of my life, I lost perception of everything, it built in me hatred for intimacy and relationships. I had marriage phobia. I couldn't have a stress-free conversation with an opposite sex. I made up my mind to be single all through my life. It was a lonely journey for me, but I took it believing it would be well-worth it.
A week later, the break up became official. I was sent to my aunt's house, since I was about writing my senior secondary school exams. I stayed with my aunt for years and I had some sad experiences there too, that's a story for another day. I grew up being unhappy, disliking everyone who ever tried to encourage me. Years came and gone, here I was still trying to accept the fate life has offered, crying my eyes out each day, thinking of where I would have been if everything was still rosy. But like the Bible says"for all things worketh together for good, to those that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose".
I began to realized my creative abilities and saw how people admired and appreciated everything I did, then I knew that though everything had looked gloomy and dark, there's light at the end of the tunnel. I started seeing life at a different perspective and I knew I could make it without my parent support even though it would have been more beautiful if they were both together. And now here I am standing strong and doing exploits with my siblings, showcasing our God given abilities and learning from other too. When I think about how far have come, tears drop's roll down my cheek like an oil.
