The Festival du Voyageur is an annual event held in the city of Winnipeg , which lasts for 10 days celebrating Canada's fur-trading past and unique French heritage and culture through entertainment, arts and crafts, music, exhibits, and displays.
Part of what I love about the festival is it's resurrection through re-enactment, the old ways. I especially like to see the clothes, and how they are made. They might look odd in this age, but they were very effective. A modern outfit, might keep you warm for a day in the harsh Canadian Winter, but the fur traders, soldiers, and explorers were out in the unforgiving wilderness for months, sometimes years at a time. They knew their craft! I like to spend time in the out doors in Winter, and I base my apparel choices on various traditional, and historical ideas. I have a lot to learn!
