It's not every battle is yours to fight.
Remember, as kids, they taught us to never give up and to stand and fight.
They also encouraged us to be strong but they also forgot to teach us that sometimes, the strongest thing to do is to walk away.
I learned this in my late twenties anyway.
I used to argue every argument and if someone insulted me, I insulted back immediately.
If someone tried to drag me into gossip, I would defend myself for hours and if someone misunderstood me, I would write a long paragraph trying to prove I am right.
At the end, I will still leave unfulfilled because I was fighting battles that were never going to give me peace.
Some battles are not battles but traps.
That neighbor who always wants to argue about who poured water in the passage is not about water but it is about attention.
That friend who always brings up your past mistake in every small quarrel it's not mistaken but it's about control.
That online stranger who downvote your post it's not about you but it's about his own frustration.
The winning trick is that when you answer, you enter their ring, but when you walk away, you keep your power.
Walking away is not weakness.
It is wisdom. Know this.
The Bible says it in another way, A fool's quarrel ends where wisdom begins.
I have walked away from friendships that were only alive because I was begging. I have walked away from arguments where winning would still make me lose my peace. I have walked away from people who only clap when I am failing.
And for the first time in my life, I have peace.
Also listen that you don't need to attend every argument you are invited to.
You don't need to prove you are not what they said you are. Those who know you, know you. Those who want to believe rubbish, will believe it even if you bring witnesses.
So today, check your life. Which battle are you fighting that is stealing your sleep, joy, and focus?
Ask yourself, is the battle worth it?
Will winning it change your account balance, health or future?
If the answer is No, then just walk away.
Let them think they won and post their victory.
In six months from now, you will be far ahead, and they will still be in that same spot, looking for who to fight next.
Sometimes silence is not empty. It is full of answers.
Your peace is more expensive than their opinion so protect it.
