Everybody says they want the key.
The key to success.
The key to money.
The key to a happy marriage.
The key to healing.
We pray for keys every day in the places of our worships.
But I have lived long enough to understand a painful truth is that we are not afraid of the key. We are afraid of what the key will open and show us.
The key is innocent. What is inside the room is what scares us.
Let me explain with some real life stories.
- The Key To Your Phone
Your wife knows your password. You know her password. But both of you have silently agreed never to check.
Why?
Not because you trust each other 100%. But because that small key which is your phone PIN might uncover a message, a secret chat, a lie you are not ready to handle.
So we say, I respect your privacy.
But truth is, we fear what the key will uncover.
- The Key To Your Bank Account.
I had a friend in Lagos who sells clothes in Alaba Market. For years he never wrote down his sales. He just collected money and spent.
I asked him, why don't you open your account and calculate your profit?
He laughed and said, if I open it, I will see that I am suffering for nothing. Let me just continue hustling.
He was afraid of his own bank key. Not because the bank will bite him. But because the key will uncover that he is busy but not making profit. That he is working hard but living in self-deception.
Many of us are like that.
We fear to check our health.
We fear to go for medical test.
Not because we don't want to be healthy, but because that key, the lab result might uncover that our lifestyle is killing us.
- The Key To Opportunity.
We pray for big doors. God give me Canada visa, give me contract, give me promotion.
But when God gives us the key, we start to fear.
I know a guy who prayed for a big contract. He got a 50 million naira contract last year. That key opened a door and uncovered something that he had zero discipline, zero accounting skill, and zero plan. He blew the money in few months and ended up more depressed than before.
The key did not fail him.
The key uncovered him.
This is why many people remain in small places. It's not that there are no keys around them. It's that they know deep down that if they pick up that key, it will expose that they are not ready. That they are lazy. That they are not as smart as they pretend.
The most scary key is the key to yourself.

Lock yourself in a room for one hour. No phone. No music. No TV. Just you and silence.
You will not last for 30 minutes.
Why?
Because the key of silence will open your heart and uncover wounds you buried long ago. Your father's harsh words. Your mother's tears you ignored. Your own failures you never forgave yourself for.
So we keep our lives noisy. We keep scrolling. We keep gisting. So we never have to face that key.
My own experience.
For a long time, I refused to write my goals on paper. I just said them in my head. Because I knew that if I write them and check them after 6 months, that key will uncover that I am a talker, not a doer.
The day I finally wrote my goals and opened my old journal, I cried. But that cry healed me. Because you cannot clean a room you refuse to open.
Here is the wisdom.
A key does not create what is inside. It only reveals what was already there.
Money does not change you. Money uncovers you.
Marriage does not change you. Marriage uncovers you.
Fame does not change you. Fame uncovers you.
So stop praying only for keys.
Pray for the courage to face what the keys will uncover.
Pray for the discipline to clean whatever they reveal.
Because a locked door does not protect you. It only keeps you a prisoner.

That honest talk with your spouse.
That health check.
That apology you need to make.
That business idea you keep postponing.
Open it and whatever it uncovers, you can fix it.
But you can never fix what you keep locked.
