We came here with nothing.
We will leave with nothing.
And in between, we fight like everything belongs to us.

Let's think about it.
That house you are so proud of?
Someone lived there before you.
Someone will live there after you.
That land you are ready to kill your brother for?
It was there before your grandfather was born. It will be there after your grandchildren are gone.
That money, that car, that title, that fine clothes?
All borrowed.
All temporary.

We are not owners in this life. We are tenants.

Listen.
We are like travelers who checked into a hotel for a few nights and started claiming the TV and the bed as our father's properties.

This life is short. Very short.

One minute you are planning your 10-year vision. The next minute you hear that someone your age is gone. Just like that. No permission. No goodbye.

And yet, look at how we live.

We hold grudges for 10 years over things that won't matter in 10 days.
We refuse to forgive.
We envy, we hate, we gossip, we oppress.
We break hearts, we break homes, all for things we can never keep.

We forgot the truth.

If nothing belongs to us, then why are we so unkind to each other?

If you knew you were only going to live in a house for 3 days, would you spend those 3 days fighting with your housemate over who owns the chair?

No.
You would enjoy the stay.
You would be kind.
You would leave the place better than you met it.

That is how we should live here.

How do we live peacefully when we remember nothing belongs to us?

  • HOLD THINGS LIGHTLY, HOLD PEOPLE TIGHTLY.
Stop holding tight to things that are temporary and holding lightly to people who make life meaningful.
Your certificate will not visit you in the hospital.
Your money will not cry at your funeral. People will.
    Love them while you can.

  • FORGIVE QUICKLY.
Life is too short to be carrying anger like luggage. Forgiveness is not saying what they did is okay. Forgiveness is saying l refuse to let what you did spoil the few days I have here.
    Free yourself.

  • SHARE WHAT YOU HAVE.
You cannot take it with you, but you can send it ahead through kindness. That food you hoard will spoil. That money you hide will be spent by others. But the kindness you give?
That lives forever in someone's heart.

  • LIVE SIMPLE. LIVE GRATEFUL.
You don't need to own the world to enjoy it. You don't own the sunset, but you can watch it. You don't own the ocean, but you can swim in it. You don't own the air, but you can breathe it. Enjoy without needing to possess.

  • LEAVE FOOTPRINTS, NOT WOUNDS.
At the end, people will not remember how big your house was. They will remember how you made them feel. Did you bring peace or trouble?
    Did you heal or hurt?
Your legacy is not what you owned, but what you gave.

My grandfather used to say: My son, this world is like a market. We all came to buy and sell, and by evening, we will all return home.

Don't fight too much in the market. Don't steal too much. Don't curse your fellow trader. Evening is coming.

Be kind.
Be humble.
Be peaceful.

Because in the end, we all return with the same thing, empty hands and a full record of how we treated others.

So today, call that person. Say sorry. Say thank you. Say I love you. Share that little you have.

We own nothing.
But we can be kind to everyone.

And maybe, just maybe, that kindness is the only thing that will truly remain after we are gone.

What is one kind thing you will do today, knowing this life is not yours to keep?
