Today was a proper field day.
I got to site the early, boots on, helmet on. First thing was walking around the pit with the crew. We are currently working lead ore and zinc oxide, here, so my job was to make sure we were actually digging where the good stuff is.
I spent most of the morning watching the drilling, then mapping the rock faces. You could see the difference clearly — the lead ore was in those heavy, shiny galena veins,
and the zinc oxide showed up as that lighter, earthy material.
I took samples every few meters so the lab can confirm we’re not mixing waste with ore.
By midday it got rainy,
but we kept pushing. I was in and out of the pit, checking that workers were in their full safety clothes including helmets and rain boots. The safety was big today too, I also reminded everyone about dust masks because of the zinc dust.
The excavator operators were up and doing all day and the doxa operators as were.
Closed out the day with paperwork and a quick team debrief. Tired, dusty, but we hit our targets and nobody got hurt. That’s a good day in the field of geology.
