I had planned to cycle today but the heat was the thing that changed my mind. So after making a final decision, left home mid morning for a walk which actually covered part of one cycle route that I do quite a lot.
The start and finish was at Tilgate Lake car park. It was already getting hot again but my planned route was mainly in woodland and forest so there was plenty of cover.
Every track was very dusty and bone dry. Just a spark could cause a huge wildfire now which is very worrying. Houses have been destroyed by people using barbecues!
Streams and brooks were still flowing....just! But I passed a small pond that usually has water in all year round but sadly it was almost dry today. Just wet mud at the bottom.
So, the distance today was just over six miles, including a long hill climb. A good walk in these conditions, and as I'm not accustomed to walking this far, I did feel it! 😆. That compares to my average cycle rides of typically 25 miles.
