Wez was still surprised, and at that moment he stared at the piano while the first musician played that melody that seemed to awaken something inside Elaris. It brought the city to life—everyone was bustling about—and best of all, many musicians could be heard playing in different parts of the city. However, the musician stopped playing and said “If you want to save Elaris, you can’t look for me—you have to find what we left behind.” Those words left Wez confused, but he looked at the sheet music and realized that the first notes he’d just heard were different from the ones he’d found in the cabin, where those notes seemed to be the true beginning of the song.
The musician continued speaking and pointed to a small box under the piano. Wez looked inside and realized there was a photograph, a violin string, a small piece of glass, and a completely burnt piece of paper—each object representing a musician. And when we forget them, the shadows begin to enter the city. The photograph turned out to be of a family; it showed a building that turned out to be the old Elaris Theater. However, the others are there—but you won’t find them as you remember them.
When that conversation ended, the city shook violently, so he asked the musician to play the melody again, while Wez wrote down the melody he was hearing—that being the first memory, which was now complete. The young man put everything away and ran toward the theater. When he arrived, he was surprised to find the doors open and four instruments on stage: a violin, a guitar, a flute, and a second piano. On top of each instrument was a photograph.
Wez steeled himself and picked up the first photo; it turned out to be the violinist, who was pictured playing in front of a crowd. In the second, the guitarist was sitting in a completely empty room; in the third, the woman playing the flute appeared alongside a child; and in the last photograph was the fifth musician. These were exactly the four memories, the four musicians, and the four places; moreover, behind each instrument was a door, as if each had its own path.
Wez walked through the first door and found himself in a cemetery, where the violin was resting on a grave, accompanied by a short inscription that read: “Forgotten by the last person for whom it played.” Wez picked up the violin, and at that moment he heard a very faint melody that matched perfectly the one he had learned from the first musician. Wez smiled, since things were going very well, so he left the theater and walked toward the cemetery as the first shadows began to fall over the streets of Elaris. This time, he wasn’t going to wait for the memories to find him—he was going to seek them out. As he walked, the silver key began to glow for the first time, clearly revealing four more marks—one for each musician he still had to find.
