"They lie to win, and because of their lies, they lose everything" Bladimir Merino In these times when social media is all the rage, you see a lot of people who love to show off to others, and sometimes it’s all a lie. They brag about how much they have, and sometimes they want others to flatter them for what they own. This is this weekend’s topic: Why do you think people like to show off and brag to others? In my opinion, many of these people—or most of them show off because they’re seeking validation from others. I always think it’s a self esteem issue; young people today need external approval to feel important. That’s why they turn to social media to show off what they have, what they do, where they are, and what they buy all to feel approved by their friends.

Often, these young people spend their time comparing themselves to others to see what they’re missing or to see if they can show off in front of their friends. Comparisons are never a good thing, since they can make them feel inadequate in the eyes of others—which is exactly what I mean by a lack of self-esteem.

On the other hand, it’s better to show your good side than your bad side; it’s like putting up a protective wall so people can’t hurt you. But in the end, these people are already hurting because they aren’t happy, and they’re missing out on the chance to connect with others in a genuine way, without having to show off. I believe that people who are unfiltered and authentic are the happiest. Other people may also act this way due to social pressure, in order to be appreciated and valued; that’s why they think they have to show off. However, there are genuine people who don’t like this type of behavior. Often, some people boast about things they don’t have just to fit in with a certain group, while others, who do have those things, still seek approval. There are many and varied factors that cause people to act this way. In this case, showing off and bragging can reveal various insecurities, since the people who have the most are the ones who show off the least. I always see people who have little and love to show off everything they acquire, but on the other hand, people who are financially well off are modest and tend to keep a low profile so no one finds out what they own. These people are authentic and value their privacy, but I’ve also seen people on social media who have a lot and love to show off perhaps they just need flattery to feel happy.

I think it’s not good to brag, not to show off what we have; it’s better for people to realize on their own who we are, and the best thing is to be humble at all times,
