We live in a world full of sounds. These sounds can be sounds of the birds that entertains us at dawn, or the sounds from rain which soothes our souls, or even the sounds of music that makes everything come to life.

Some of these songs are pleasing to the ear but there are some of these sounds that are not so pleasing. There is this one particular sound that stands out which is so irritating to me and this is the sound of a generator.

In my country Nigeria, where NEPA is seriously showing us shege, power outage has become as common as greetings. The power holding company has constantly refused to give us power and this has resulted to no power every now and then. Because of this, Nigerians have no other option than to adopt the use of generators which have become a necessary evil to fill the void that's left by this unreliable power grid we face.

I call the generator evil because homes, businesses, even street vendors, all rely on these generators as a substitute for the power outage and the truth is, while these generators offer a lifeline to our daily needs, the price we pay for this is a constant sound that gets on our nerves and disrupts our daily lives.

Honestly, the impact of the generator noise is far more than just an annoyance. Guys, I can boldly tell you that this generator noise is a thief of sleep as it robs us of the precious rest our bodies and minds actually crave for.

Just imagine, after a very tiring and stressful day at work, you are trying to sleep and there you have it, that mechanical monster with that sound outside your window. I bet you won't be able to sleep with such noise around. This is a battle against fatigue and trust me, silence at this moment is very important if you want to rejuvenate.

But guys, the harm caused by these generator noises actually goes beyond our lost sleep. Now studies have shown that chronic exposure to these loud noises can lead to lots of health problems ranging from high blood pressure and heart disease to anxiety and depression. Just imagine the collective impact this has on millions of Nigerians who are forced to live with this constant disturbing noise.

The economic impact of hearing these generator noises constantly is also very significant. Lost productivity due to fatigue, and increased healthcare costs associated with noise-related health issues are burdens we have to bear as individuals and the nation as a whole.

So, you might want to ask what we can do to solve this issue right? I feel the ideal solution for this, which of course is an obvious one is for us to have a constant and reliable power grid. But until that dream becomes a reality, we seriously need to find other ways to curb these increasing negative effects of generators.

Silencing the noise of the generator won't actually be easy. It requires a lot of wise approach, from individual action to government intervention. But the benefits are undebatable. We will end up having a healthier, more productive, and ultimately, more peaceful nation.

The fact remains that the generator doesn't have to be our constant companion. We just have to work together to find solutions to turn down the volume of this unwanted sound, and reclaim the right to a quiet night's sleep. We wouldn't want other countries to keep calling us the generator Republic do we?
