“If you could send a letter to yourself one year from today, what would you write?”
I guess that's a letter my future self would look forward to reading. It's currently an uneasy stage of life. Not saying that a year from now everything would have been set or established, and every destination reached. However, I'm still optimistic that a lot of good can and will happen in a year. A letter to my future self would be a reminder of life one year ago, inquiry how it's going in the future and encouragement to keep on, in good faith, virtue and character.
Hey future self,
It feels good to be writing this to you. Hope you're doing well, and life is being fair to you? But it doesn't really matter even if it's unfair. You're responsible for the outcome of your life. So you can't blame life or even others. At least this is something you knew a year ago. I do hope though that all is going well with you, and that you're in good health and sound mind. Remember, it's the healthy who have a dream to pursue and a purpose to fulfil.
I'm not just writing to check up on you. I would appreciate knowing you're doing well, but I would like to go beyond that. I would like to go beyond and also remind you of some things. Hope you're chasing that dream? I know you won't give up on it because you've learnt not to do that, and to trust in God in your bid to achieve success. I hope you still have that God in mind and you're obedient to Him. Remember, He's the reason you've come this far.
What have you achieved so far? This isn't to put pressure on you. It's a reminder to never let life pressure you or the success of others. Remember, you're not entitled to prove yourself to anyone. It's already a harsh world, that's why you need to stay with God, loved ones and those who cherish and push you towards success. Hope you're being loving to mom and dad, your siblings and loved ones? You know they always have you at heart, right? Don't forget that.
Lastly, don't forget your commitment to humanity. Not as an act, but a purposeful journey. Do it always when you can, from a selfless and loving heart that demands nothing in return but to just put a smile on the faces of others. Lest I forget, don't fall for the schemes and pressures of this world. Many have gone all out to be all things to attain some results. Not you. You're not better, but remember how you were brought up. Please, don't compromise.
The world might not be as it is now on this day as I write this letter to you. But I believe you're adapting and moving, even if it's a single step a day. That's actually progress. Keep on. And hey, I'm proud of you already. We all are.
Yours sincerely,
Yourself.
