Perhaps “Journey” is not exactly the right word to use, but it did feel like a journey, because I wasn’t wearing proper footwear (think flip flops). I guess it was only about 30 minutes or so to get there (but it felt like forever). It was an unexpected deviation from the main falls. You see, I did not realize there was a lower falls to experience! Next time I will make sure I am properly prepared (rookie mistake). Ok, enough of that. The Sunwapta Falls are located about half way from the town of Jasper to the Columbia Icefields (a highly recommended adventure in and of itself), Alberta, Canada. Considering it was mid-summer, it seemed that there were only a few hikers enjoying the falls, which was awesome, because I prefer the less crowded experiences.
