I feel that I've come to a crossroad. I've been a delivery driver for DoorDash for a few months now, and I've been wondering how does it compare to working at a restaurant job, delivering food? Like a pizza driver?
Would that money be better than DoorDash? Or does DoorDash pay more? And which would be better for me? it's time for me to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of both.
| ... | DoorDash | Restaurant | Comments |
|---|---|---|---|
| Driver Pay | Both pay around $10/hour. DD sometimes varies. | ||
| Flexibility | DD scheduling is flexible, but availability may vary in some areas. | ||
| Customers | Both are respectful. DD customers may tip more often. | ||
| Tipping | DD is definitely better when it comes to tips. | ||
| Mileage | The distance you drive averages out about the same. | ||
| Insurance/Liability | Sadly, the insurance coverage DD provides is too expensive. | ||
| Rewards/Incentives | Both jobs are rewarding in their own ways. | ||
| Upward mobility | DD does not increase pay with time/experience. | ||
| ................. | .................. | .................. | ................. |
Winner?
Toss-up. Both have pluses and negatives. DoorDash gives you flexibility to work at your own pace, but a restaurant gives you the ability to do other things besides just driving all day long. Plus a restaurant gives you your guaranteed hourly wage. My suggestion is to work a "real" job, and also do DoorDash as a side hustle to make extra cash.
