Positive news is being constantly drowned out by negative news. Much of this negativity is either presented with a negative spin or overlaid with social media and 24-hour cable news talking heads unnecessarily egging on their viewers to be pessimistic.
The media has always been fascinated by negativity. It's what sells newspapers and gets people to click on links. But why is this? Surely there must be something more positive that we can focus on?
Some argue that the media only focuses on negativity because that's what people want to hear about. We are naturally Drawn to stories of disaster and conflict, as they make for more exciting reading than tales of happiness and peace.
Others believe that the media is biased towards negativity because it's what makes for better news. Bad news sells, and so the media is more likely to report on it. This means that we often see a distorted view of the world, one which is skewed towards the negative.
Whatever the reasons for the media's focus on negativity, it's important to remember that we can choose what we pay attention to. We don't have to let the news dictate our mood – we can choose to focus on the positive instead.
In a world where media positivity is as popular as negativity, the focus would be on good news, feel-good stories, and hope-filled content. This would shift the public's attention away from violence, crime, and other sources of negativity. As a result, people would feel better about themselves and the world around them. More people would be engaged in making positive change happen.
In order to become more grateful and optimistic, we must first recognize the negativity in our lives and make a conscious effort to change our perspective. One way to do this is by practicing mindfulness. Mindfulness is the act of being present in the moment and recognizing our thoughts and feelings without judgment. When we are able to do this, we can begin to see the beauty in life that we often take for granted. Additionally, it is important to express gratitude for what we have, no matter how small it may seem. By simply taking a few moments each day to reflect on the things we are thankful for, we can train our brain to focus on the positive aspects of our lives. Lastly, it is essential to practice optimism—even when things are tough. Optimism is a choice that we make every day, and it has the power to change our lives for the better. When we choose to be hopeful and look for the good in every situation, we open ourselves up to limitless possibilities.
Let our children not grow up in a terrible world. Together we can make it better. It is our destiny to
suffer from the past, to long for the future, but to forget the present.
