Super Troopers hits theaters this Friday and I really hope it's good. I quite enjoy the original Super Troopers and I never really thought it would get a sequel and it almost didn't get one. The cast acquired the rights to produce a sequel but were given no financial backing. The next logical step? Crowdfund of course. And boy did they get a lot of support.
Within 14 hours of the campaign opening on Indiegogo the project had already raised 1.4 million dollars. The goal of 2 million dollars was passed in 26 hours and the campaign raised a total of 4.4 million. Super Troopers 2 seemed ready to go,and then the wait began. Despite the campaign closing on April 24th 2015 and news that production would begin soon, well here we are, finally getting the sequel all Super Troopers fans wanted, 4 days under 3 years later!
Despite the delay I am still excited. The trailers have shown the gang setting up shop as highway patrolmen in a recently reclaimed section of the U.S. previously thought to be Canadian. The Canadian Mounties and the local population are less than thrilled as you can imagine. The premise sounds like a recipe for some great laughs to me, I just hope this long wait has been worth it.
We'll find out Friday if our patience paid off, but frankly I'd like to know right meow!
