I agree that there shouldn't be a tax on powerups as it would discourage the buying of hive. I buy small amounts on a regular basis and power it up. I don't know if I would continue to do that with a tax though. However, I fully support the idea of implementing a shorter powerdown with an associated tax (only if you choose to powerdown in a shorter period of time than normal).

There's nothing inherently wrong with wanting to bring more money to the platform. After all, people come here instead of somewhere else because it gives you the ability to earn. Plus, it's hard to get consistent, quality development, witnesses, etc. without money involved. Most people won't work for free. Or at least that work will be limited.

I don't see what 50/50 rewards has to do with anything. If you were rewarded 100% one way or the other you could simply power up or down 50% yourself if you wanted. For example, I take the 50/50 rewards but generally power up everything anyway after the fact.
