I've finally been out and about with the camera and drone, and thankfully the weather held off long enough to get some decentish shots (far from my best work, but hay-ho).
My travels took me up to Cumbria and the Lake District, I stayed in a little sleepy village called Newton Reigny, it was lovely and very very quiet, with the traffic of about 10 cars an hour passing through, great little place.
On our travels over, just outside Penrith, we saw this beautiful castle basically at the side of the main A66 route. The light was ever changing, so didn't quite get the shot that I wanted, but I know where I'll probably end up on my next big drive out.
The castle is a good size and is misleading from the pictures, it's a great to walk round, and have an ice cream like we did, as it was a very hot day.
As we were talking to the lady in the visitors centre, the lady remarked that in "1066, Brougham Castle was there to control the border between Scotland and England, the river creating a natural border between the two countries and Penrith was back then, in Scotland".
A little fact that I had no idea that the Scottish border came this far south.
I loved the motte around the castle too, although no longer full, there were little bridges over it to make it easier to walk around.
With the ever changing light and being in the middle of the day, I didn't hope for any masterpieces of shots, but one thing I did come out of this with was the memories of a lovely visit to the Cumbrian castle.
I asked my girlfriend to hold the camera while I took the drone up....
She then decided to take a shot of me hand catching the Mini 2.
Overall I do recommend visiting here if you are in the area. More pictures of my visit to Cumbria to follow, especially some epic aerial shots of an old abbey that I found.
