It is a new morning. The day is just starting. As I sit on the back porch listening to the bird song which started with the rising sun, I am reminded that life is what you make of it.
Think about that for a moment
Life is What You Make of It!
It is full of choices that you make or that are made for you. One after another, that leads you down certain roads.
I would not be sitting here listening to the birds if I would have kept working and not retired when I did. Or maybe I would be as I retired when COVID hit and learned after I left that most of the staff in the department I worked was let go.
But before that time we had chosen to build this house that took over a year to build so it was the decision to build the house that put me where I am today. Not that I retired or laid off that lead me to where I am today.
If I had not chosen to buy a plot of land out in the middle of the country on the spur of the moment. It was a liquidation sale and the showing were on the weekend that hurricane Harvey hit Texas.
It was raining off an on and we stood on about this spot looking out and said to ourselves, if it is this lovely when it is raining just think how it would be otherwise. So we made the choice to buy it with out any notice.
About that same time other sales staff were bringing other potential buyers to see that specific lot as well. So in the course of 30 minutes my life was changed forever because of a spur of the moment decision.
People always tell you it is the big decisions that will shape your life. I disagree. It is the combination of both the big one’s like retirement and the small one’s like going to look at a lot three hours from where you currently live in the middle of a hurricane and then making the spur of the moment decision to buy the lot that lead you down roads that you might not otherwise go down.
Looking back I don’t really know why we took that trip to see that lot other than we wanted to get out of the house for the weekend and do something. It is amazing where a simple decision like that will make such a drastic impact on your life. So again I say:
Life is what you make of it.
So go out there and live life and make choices because you never know. Even the smallest of choices can make a big impact on the direction your life takes.
