The International Spy Museum
If you’d love to experience some of the enthralling bits of spying and espionage, the International Spy Museum is the destination for you. The museum, which was opened in 2002 is the sole of its kind in the world. It was created to portray just how much spying and espionage have influenced world history, starting from the Roman and Greek empires through to the present day. It has about twenty thousand square feet of exhibition space and more than 600 items on display, which range from the German Enigma coding machine to a mind-boggling, creative assortment of hidden cameras that include hollowed out coins. The National Zoo
The Smithsonian National Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the United States, and if you are sightseeing as a family, it won’t disappoint. It is the only zoo in Washington DC, and though it housed the popular Smokey Bear, a living icon in the forest fire prevention campaign who stayed there from 1950 to 1976, it does not currently house any bears. It does, however, have about 2,000 animals of hundreds of different species, many of which are endangered, and from all over the world. They include giant pandas, zebras, piranhas, Komondo dragons, and more. The zoo also has a section for kids where they can get to see domesticated animals such as Silver-Fox rabbits, and Holstein cows up close. It is usually open every day except for Christmas, and offers free admission.
Visit the Capitol Building
If you love art, The US Capitol Building is the place to visit. It houses the House and Senate, with its construction having begun towards the end of the 18th Century and ending in 1811. It was unfortunately partially burnt during the war of 1812, leading to a seven year reconstruction period. That said, the building is a magnificent piece of work and embodies the neoclassical building style. It also has numerous murals and statues, with The Apotheosis of George Washington painting being visible through the centre of the rotunda ceiling. There are also numerous American history paintings.
