An AI is computer software which can replicate human intelligence. The term was coined by Dartmouth professor John McCarthy in 1955. The first AI system that could pass the Turing Test was developed by the Dartmouth Computer Corporation (DCC) team in the 1970s. After the DCC team published a paper in the journal of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), AI was officially defined as a computer program which can carry on a meaningful conversation with a human being, convincingly and with a minimal level of anxiety.
One of the examples of early AI was an AI chat bot named Eliza who was developed by Joseph Weizenbaum to test whether a computer program can act like a human being and to test the Turing test by asking Eliza questions about the human personality.
As the blockchain and crypto technology become so mainstream, the blockchain tech is not just another tool for a company to make money. It now has applications outside of just financial infrastructure. Therefore, is the cryptocurrency just a blockchain like Ethereum or is there an AI alive inside of it?
As one of the two major blockchain platforms – the other one is Bitcoin – the Ethereum platform is widely being used as the next step of the blockchain technology. It works by having a Turing complete machine running on its own network. This was what inspired the term AI – the blockchain-based AI.
Ethereum is similar to Bitcoin in that they both are based on blockchain technology but with different set of rules. With blockchain technology, we can see how one piece of data, such as value can be spread all over the world. If a transaction goes through Bitcoin, then the money is physically located on a certain address (the public key is the address of the owner). But, on Ethereum, the blockchain is the physical place where every transaction happens and each node/user of the blockchain has their own address (their public key is an address).
Since Ethereum has a Turing complete machine running on the platform, the network can run whatever code is written by people. Ethereum is not only the blockchain, but it is the first platform to use the blockchain technology to create its own programming language – the Solidity. The Solidity was developed as a set of pre-written smart contracts that allow users to easily write decentralized applications or DApps."
