The sun sets with a defiant scream as the darkness takes over, chasing away what is left of the ever so present light. I watch the graceful colors of the sky as the soft, chilly, wind whispers through the grass like a long lost friend.
I sigh and curl my night black hair behind my pale ear, "Aria what's wrong?"
I rolled my eyes "Just another problem with Gabriel. It's nothing I can't handle Vince, really." I said sounding more sure of myself than I felt.
"Why don't you just break up with him? It's not like he ever deserved you anyway."
I shook my head, "Come on Vince. I know you don't like the guy but you don't have to announce it to kingdom come."
I could hear his fingers move over the Xbox controller, rushing faster and faster as he talked, "Everyone knows he's a jerk, Aria. Not to mention he's a total bark narc.
I tried to be angry with him but I burst out in laughter instead, "What in the world is a bark narc?"
I could imagine his big brown eyes growing larger as he smiled, like he always did when he laughed. "A narcissistic, weed smoking, brooding, emotion toying, wannabe. He's the definition of a creepy guy that no one in the entire human population should be dating, especially not you. You're too good for him Aria." I saw the lecture coming from miles away, but I knew better than to stop him, "I mean the guy barely acknowledges you over his own "shining brilliance". Not to mention he looks like he could eat babies and sleep fine, the dude's creepy Aria."
I shook my head, "That's not true. He loves me. He'd never eat babies Vince; just stop acting like you know him better than I do. Stop judging me."
I could tell he was getting angry by the long pause on the other end. Finally, he replied, "Was it his love for you that convinced him to tell everyone that you've done every guy in school at least once and him five times? I mean come on Aria stop being so cliché! The guy is playing you and you're sitting here helping him set up the field! You need to kick him to the curb before it's too late."
Ice formed in my chest as I said coldly "Shut up Vince, I don't need life lessons from you. After all, I'm not the one who dated the girl who killed her own family. So stop being an asshole! "
"Yeah I'm an asshole but I'm the only asshole in your life who gives a shit about you."
"Vince-" I took a deep breath. I knew he was still there because even when he got angry at me he was still there when I needed him. "I'm sorry. Let me make it up to you okay?"
"Yeah and how were you going to do that?" He said the playful tone creeping back into his voice slowly.
"Gabriel isn't going to prom with me but I still bought two tickets." I said knowing that would make him smile, "Want to go?"
"Just get ready and I'll pick you up about seven."
"See you soon then."
