Life is made of little moments,

Seconds that form minutes,

Minutes that fill frames.

Tiny minute details,

That otherwise,

Wouldn't matter.

But because of you they do.

It's the look in your eyes,

When you read that

Perfectly crafted tale,

And watch as our souls

Drift into sleep.

It's the way I remember,

Sunshine and darkness,

Then dinner as you called our names.

It was my first bike ride,

The thousands of cuts

On the my knees.

Because your little girl,

Was way too clumsy,

But you loved the look on my face,

When I finally got it right.

It was the first time I learned,

That life wasn't permanent.

But you were there.

And you knew,

That all the chocolate shakes in the world,

Couldn't help me understand.

It was my first real heartbreak.

When I learned that boys,

Were way too cruel.

You opened your arms,

And told me I was beautiful.

It was the day she left,

We both cried,

Until no tears were left.

You never cried around us,

But I knew it still broke you.

It's all the Christmas ',

Watching you open your gifts,

And knowing that,

Even if I don't get anything,

This year would still be the best.

Its Easter morning,

The bright sun shining,

You in your best.

As you force me into,

The torture device girls call a dress.

It's that first day of kindergarten,

Then the tears of college.

It's my first essay,

You praised it as if it were your own.

I just never told you,

That you are the reason I love to write.

Seeing that pride in your eyes,

Knowing that a daughter you never owned,

Shared your craft.

And could write.
