The purpose of intellectual property law is that it is supposed to help protect the ideas of creators. Whether that be inventors, artists, or just general creators, this set of laws will protect the work of these people from being stolen, misused, or anything like that. It encourages creators to continue to work and create important properties that society enjoys. These include patents, copyrights, and trade secrets (as well as a ton more). It's economic protection that will inspire and encourage stimulation from creators that will contribute to the economy. Without these intellectual property laws, creators would lack the insurance to generate ideas and innovations and actual derive something from it. Their ideas and efforts are safely protected from those who would steal from them. The difficult part about using intellectual property laws is the balance between protecting and distributing. The laws need to be enough to protect from theft and fraud but at the same time, they need to be not so restricting that the property cannot be used. This can be difficult as most intellectual property cannot guarded like land property where guards and fences can be erected to physically keep people out and away. With intellectual property, once it leaves the creators grasp, it is difficult to ensure that it will not be misused or stolen. However, it is better to have some laws than no laws at all, because if there were not anything at all, then there would be way to encourage people to innovate and create, they would not feel safe or secure enough to risk anything, and thus, growth would be very little, if at all. As such, Intellectual Property Laws have the very important purpose of protecting creators and encouraging innovation!
