The glaciers have been reduced, the ice in the rivers and lakes breaks before, the ranges of plants and animals have changed and the trees are blooming before.

Sea levels are rising and the oceans are warming up. Longer and more intense droughts threaten crops, wildlife and freshwater supplies. From Arctic polar bears to sea turtles off the coast of Africa, the diversity of life on our planet is threatened by climate change.

Impacts vary by forest type. Subarctic boreal forests are likely to be particularly affected as tree lines gradually retreat to the north as temperatures increase. In tropical forests such as the Amazon, where biodiversity is plentiful, even moderate climate change can cause high levels of extinction.

Heat waves are more common around the world. The greater evaporation of water is like a fuel for storms, like hurricanes. Rising sea levels make storm surges much more damaging. In the more arid regions, of course, droughts and forest fires intensify.
