Our base in San Pedro de Atacama sits 2500m above sea level. Today we're heading to the Altiplano (high plateau) which is 4000m above sea level.
It's very easy to suffer with altitude sickness when travelling to the Altiplano. We were briefed about methods for acclimatisation and how to cope in this difficult terrain. You can see the view from the back of the van with the Andes in sight. The temperature is very cold here and we are taking on lots of water to try and mitigate the sickness.
