Do you like Tanagers? Then feast your eyes on these beauties! These Hepatic Tanagers (Piranga flava) greeted us along Las Minas Trail, just minutes from our home-base of Canopy Lodge in El Valle de Antón. You may have seen this species in the SW United States, but did you know this Piranga tanager ranges all the way south to northern Argentina?
Along this massive range, three subspecies are recognized, and may eventually be split. This species would likely be named Tooth-billed Tanager (Piranga lutea testacea), ranging from the foothills of Costa Rica to northern S. America.
