Description from Strava: Tried to make the most of the Bank Holiday, especially as we had some nice weather forecast (usually bank holidays equal rain!). I was saying to @dawnsart that it feels like we've barely gone out anywhere this summer and she agreed
I mean, we have been busy doing other stuff like her graduation, and bits around the house etc... but we've definitely been out fewer places this year
After checking that the weather was suitable, we decided to head out to a local nature reserve - Woodhall Spa Airfield Nature Reserve.
It was acquired by the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust a few years ago, and we visited it as soon as it was first open to the public. As the name suggests, it is an old RAF base, and the idea is that the Wildlife Trust is going to help rewild it for the benefit of nature. As it has been awhile, we thought it would be worth going back to see what had changed.
spoiler - nothing much had changed, and there wasn't a great deal to see!
I know it's probably not the best time of year to see it etc... but it was a little disappointing.
Fortunately there are a number of small nature reserves in the area, so we dug out a map, found another reserve 10 minutes away, and hopped back in the car.
Kirkby Gravel Pits was much more interesting, helped by the fact that it is much older, and much more established. We saw an assortment of birds and insects, the most numerous of which were lots and lots of Willow Emerald Damselflies.
I need to sift through the various pictures, and then I'll write up a proper post on the day out... stay tuned!
After all that, it was time for a spot of lunch and a lazy afternoon, before it was time to go for a run. If I was working, then I would have run somewhere between 4 and 5pm, so it felt right waiting until almost 5 to head out today. I only needed a smallish run today, so a little loop with part of the bypass for approx 7km was plenty today.
And now I'm back home, it's time for Dinner, and Shower, and getting ready for work tomorrow...

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)
