I love all of those Tudor houses, but how on earth do they stay up?

A friend of a friend who worked in town planning (this could be an urban myth!) said the city authorities fought back tooth and nail to prevent any of the sixties and seventies concrete buildings/multistorey carparks that are a feature of so many post-war U.K. towns from encroaching on the medieval city. Their battle cry: "We're having nowt higher than t'Minster!"
