En 1840 se trasladó a París donde trabajó como profesor de piano, guitarra y composición, dejando de lado su carrera de concertista. Falleció el 16 de enero de 1853, a los 56 años de edad. Es uno de los estudios que se le asignan a los estudiantes de este instrumento en el primer año, Y recuerdo que en el conservatorio me pedían imaginar una conversación entre la melodía que todo el tiempo la tiene la cuerda número 1, con otra melodía que cantan los bordones, esto ayuda a definir la distribución de sonidos cuerda por cuerda. Continuó su vida artística haciendo numerosas giras por Europa e Inglaterra complementándolo con la enseñanza y la publicación de obras. Carcassi escribió alrededor de 80 piezas para guitarra y publicó la mayoría de ellas con Meissonnier.
