In 21st century, coastal cities provide people valuable opportunities to interact with the environment closely through waterfronts. Vastly open ocean views from coastlines set people’s eyes free from narrow cell-phone screens and sounds of wind and moving water help them hear and appreciate the fact the nature brings people peaceful reliefs that dense cities cannot offer.
It is significant to sustain environmental value of current waterfronts and keep them easily accessible for the public. Waterfronts are places where people visit to find shelters, relax, and play. Well programmed recreation in waterfronts’ built environment can promote friendly relationship between human and the water, and develop healthy living community. Not only establishing precious connections between the water and urban environment, waterfronts also allow creative industries to be facilitated and foster economic vitality.
Technological achievements allow architectural designs of waterfronts to be simulated in various environments and circumstances, maximizing precisions in designing beautiful landscape between cities and waters. Urban analysis and precise data based on such achievements can not only help designers open the waterfronts to as many people as possible, but also design safe shelters for original ecosystems of the water. Waterfronts are strong, healthy and welcoming achievement of coastal communities as long as designers and cities utilize such technologies wisely and keep collaborating to establish the beautiful connection between people and the waters.
