I currently own a Samsung S5. The battery life on it has been excellent but am looking to purchase a new device fairly soon. I've had my phone 21 months. Will probably wait a couple months to purchase so prices come down.
I took to looking into the Samsung S8 and compiled some info to pass along in a quick review.
The S8 is pricey. $750 is too rich for my blood at the moment. Like anything prices will drop as later the Samsung 8 note and new iphone come out in half a year. I usually am behind the curve and lag a little behind with the newest phones but hey it saves you money to wait you know. If you're patient and on a budget things usually can be made to work out well.
The Samsung S8 is the first standard curved android. (being that it is not the Edge model I mean...I believe that was the Samsung S7 Edge is what I'm referring to.) The phone seems slim and narrower so after you buy the damn thing please don't be like I was with my iphone 4s back in the day. You already spent the money. It is worth it too purchase a quality case.
Unlike the Note 7 battery combustion disaster there doesn't seem to be any battery problems. So this seems like something that they fixed out of necessity. I have been impressed with Samsung battery life and performance. If I don't use internet much I can go several day without charging on a Samsung battery. Just my opinion.(disclaimer from above) I own the S5 currently.
High resolution 2,960/1,440 pixel display looks good even in direct sunlight from what I've read. The one thing people complain about is the fingerprint sensor. On the Samsung s5 I have to unlock it all the time with forefinger on front "home" button. On the S8 the sensor is some people say too close to the camera, on the back, which smears your camera with oil from your fingers obviously. It is touchy and takes several tries so it (again this is what I've read) may be a drawback. Close to camera and the sensor is small being that it is noticeably smaller than a previous "home" button may lead to it being more annoying to unlock.
