Statement #1
This is not about money. Some people believe money is the problem in society and while I do not necessarily agree with that thinking, I'm going to first say that the concept I'm presenting is abstract and is not limited to money. A resource is a source of supply or aid. The concept of turning up resources can best be explained by first studying a more familiar concept called compounding. There are renewable resources and non-renewable resources, there are types of common economic resources which people may find familiar such as land, labor, capital, entrepreneurship, and there are biological resources, non-human and human resources, machine and non-machine resources such as memory and computation.
Statement #2
Resource management is important to note. Any resources available, whether they be human resources, machine resources, land, all of this stuff has to be maintained, improved upon over time, etc. In order to build from requires constantly and careful management of the resources you have.
Turning up resources
How much money does it really take to become a guaranteed millionaire in 50 years? $5 a day only. Most bloggers on Steem can earn $5 a day even in the bear market, even now. The math goes like this:
If you can save $5 a day in an account with a 10 percent annual return, then in 10 years you'll have $30,000, and in 30 years $330,000 and in 50 years $2.3 million.
1825 = 5 * 365. This is obvious, but compound interest the $150 a month and after 50 years you get 2,309,273.66.
The math above illustrates "compound interest" which is a technique for building up. The resources required to earn $5 a day could be from any resources you currently have now or resources you develop. But this is assuming you've got enough resources not to actually save $5 a day in the first place. We also have to consider that there is inflation which means the value of whatever you earn is reduced by a sort of negative interest every year if you keep your resources in cash.
So the question is if you do have $5 a day and you think you have 50 years what can you do with it to get compound interest at a rate high enough? The $5 a day is unrealistic but it illustrates the point that resources can be compounded by using the mechanisms capitalism provides.
Any asset which can generate positive cash flow and which you can buy more of over time to keep increasing that positive cash flow, can by mathematics by compounded. Real estate investors for example show this to be true based on the fact that you buy a good property such as an apartment building and you fill it with tenants so that it produces for you a positive cash flow (profit = revenue - expenses), and you simply reinvest your profit to buy another property just like it, and then you repeat the process over and over and over, then in theory as long as people are willing to be tenants and as long as you manage the property well (or pay for that) then you've got a profit stream which at least in theory can compound.
Stocks can do this too, using dividend reinvestment strategies. Unfortunately a college education usually does not include wealth building strategies or financial literacy, and it also often leads to debt which makes it tough for people to save in some countries. Why is cryptocurrency and something like Libra (or Steem) so important for the world? If people have the knowledge on how to grow wealth and the means to do it then it can save lives.
Resources isn't just financial though. Attention, time, are the most valuable resources. Resource management includes how should a person invest their time and attention to produce the best outcomes for their goals?
What about your kids? If some of you are successful in crypto and you have the knowledge on how to safely invest for your kids then you could buy assets which can compound for your youngest children and let it grow to be worth millions by the time they have to retire. If we know $5 a day can become $2 million+ over 50 years then we know the more a day we can invest for our kids the easier their lives could be when they are older.
Again this post is meant to be abstract. It could be computers cloud mining in a manner which results in compound interest, it could be real estate, it could be something we never thought of yet. ASICMiner for those who remember, was a company which mined on behalf of people sent Bitcoin to it. Today it might be considered a security but what if the whole thing was managed by a smart contract? This in my opinion will be plausible. So by keeping things abstract we can understand any future technology that exists could allow for application of the technique of compounding.
Even a game like Drugwars allows for compounding. For those who like the game you will notice that the more you build certain resources in the game the more income you have to build more of those same resources faster and faster.
