We all have stereotype of mentality more or less.
We all have bias. But we don't all stereotype or believe in collective reputation. Evidence I do not, is based on the fact that I never bullied or stereotyped you based on any of common criteria. So this shows not everyone is that way.
It hurts, I know. Because I have been bullied several times for my hijab, my appearance. Because people think, I'm fundamentalist, I support some sort of terrorism and I'm conservative. Which I'm not. But it's hard to make others understand this.
In the United States there are people who stereotype based on race appearance alone (something people don't choose and cannot change). They assume based on how someone looks that they can apply intuition about the persons character. In my opinion this is a bad mistake and a result of lazy thinking. At the same time people who are positively stereotyped also at times exploit this fact that they have some sort of advantage, whether it be people of a certain race, or a certain gender, or class, who people assume by that alone that they have positive traits or are more or less likely to act a certain way.
One way people can learn not to do this is to interact with a more diverse group of people, learn about different cultures, ways of thinking, demographics, travel more, read and study the latest science.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
