No seas incrédulo—”.

The senses are the windows to the outside world, through them we capture everything that surrounds us, we are aware of our environment and we let ourselves be impacted in different ways by what we perceive. We express this perception with a language that specialists have typified as: visual, auditory and kinesthetic.

The sense of sight, culturally, has been given greater preponderance. The bible tells us, in the Gospel of John, the episode where the disciple Thomas pronounces his famous phrase: "Seeing is believing". This refers to the moment when the other disciples told Thomas that they had seen the resurrected Jesus and gave him details of the fact. Thomas replied that if he did not see in Jesus' hands the mark of the nails or put his hand in his side, he would not believe.

When Jesus meets them again, he says to Thomas: "See my hands and put your hand into my side. Do not be unbelieving-".

"Seeing is believing" is a paradigmatic phrase of knowledge. We need "everything" to be presented before our eyes to believe in it, from there we interpret reality.

In this new challenge our friend tripode@tripode brings us a phrase by Helen Keller that invites us, like Jesus, to reflect on what lies beyond what we capture with our senses. Here is my comment.

Frase 17.jpg

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched; they must be felt with the heart.

And what are those things that cannot be seen or touched but are the best and most beautiful? Gratitude, joy, inner peace, faith, hope and all those beautiful feelings that live in us. Possibly, the senses can awaken these feelings, however, they are lodged within us, regardless of whether we have the physical stimulus to see it, hear it, touch it, smell it or taste it.

The most "palpable" example (and we return to the sensory language that allows us to express what we feel) is our faith in God, that no matter from where you conceive it, you place in that omnipresent figure your love and hope.

A closer and earthly example is the love for our children that, even if you do not have them in front of you, nor see them, nor hear them, when you think of them, you are overwhelmed by an immense love and gratitude that has no boundaries, allowing you to get close to them, giving them your love, blessing and affection from heart to heart, from soul to soul.

He who inverted the phrase of the apostle Thomas is right:

“Believe in order to see”
