Saludos.

Longevity revolution, golden years, third age, senior citizens, elderly, elderly person, and even prolonged youth are some of the terms that have been used to define that stage of life that some say begins at the age of 60, others at 65, and which in formal terms is called aging-old-age-old and within it there are various stages.

I refer to these terms because they are still euphemisms to sweeten a concept that, when we find ourselves in it, can be overwhelming and pejorative, however, it is good to keep in mind that we all walk there and those who do not get there is because it is no longer in this plane, so beyond the qualifier we use the important thing is to know that we are alive and as Arjona sings, it is best to put life to the years.

Our friend emiliorios@emiliorios invites us in his initiative Older adults and the revolution of life: Is there quality in their existence? -(ES/EN) to reflect on this stage and the quality of life, here my appreciation.

A good quality of life depends on many factors, generalizing, let's say that there is the social and the individual aspect. As for the social aspect, we can include the social policies of the state that protect the elderly in health, food, special care, recreation, productive opportunities, if desired, among many other aspects.

It is no secret that in our country, quality of life is not an "easily accessible good" for any age and for the elderly, any of the above mentioned aspects represents a situation of great helplessness and no matter how much the family members assume the responsibility, commitment and love to make their lives more bearable, the economic aspect is a real limitation to give them what they want, need and deserve.

alt

Now, the one who reaches this age with good health is one more blessing that he/she has in his/her life, so taking care of it, enjoying it and procuring well-being is one of the greatest commitments we have with ourselves, because at this stage of life we are more vulnerable and degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer, senile dementia, arteriosclerosis, among others, can begin to manifest themselves by subtracting quality of life.

It is not about living with the shadow of the Sword of Damocles over us, because neither you, nor I, nor anyone else, can know what is coming in the future, but to be aware that life is today and that today can be better with what you are and what you have.

Here enters the individual aspect of the quality of life to which I referred in previous paragraphs and that from my perspective are essential to preserve and stimulate our overall health, providing us with a higher quality of life, they are:

alt

Don't stop doing. Continue or start a productive activity that you like, stimulates, motivates, fills you with creativity, expectations and illusion. Developing our abilities and skills is stimulating life, it creates commitment and responsibilities and gives that internal satisfaction of achievement.

Find an activity that takes you out of the house. Although the house may be the place where we feel most comfortable, interacting with acquaintances and strangers outside the house enlivens us. Planning, bathing, choosing clothes, getting ready to go out to do something we like is giving our spirit, mind and body that much needed dose of enthusiasm. I tell you an anecdote.

I met biodanza in the first meeting of holos-lotus by the hand of miriannalis@miriannalis, I was fascinated with this discipline that touches in a very special way the spiritual, mental, physical and approach to the other. I didn't find a place to practice it in my city: it's far away, the schedule doesn't suit me and so time went by.

Last Saturday I decided to take the matter seriously, I want to practice biodanza, I feel that I need an activity of this type. I went on the internet and to my pleasant surprise I found that on Sunday there was a class in a well known square in the city. The next day, at 8:30 in the morning, I was getting dressed to go to the meeting.

alt

The activity was motivating and comforting, I was struck by the size of the group, approximately thirty people, mostly seniors who gather to share their joy for life and fill themselves with a great positive energy. The experience was really wonderful and since life is in my favor, it is every Sunday which is perfect for me.

Soften your character. This age has the advantage of experience and if we have paid attention to life lessons we know that intolerance, complaining, judging, blaming, controlling, are harmful to health. Be flexible, let go, don't get caught up in things you can't change. Maybe it helps to think, how do we want to be remembered? As the grandmother/grandparent, sweet, loving and kind or as the grumpy, judgmental, bitter old lady.

Oh! Friend emiliorios@emiliorios, I think I went off topic, but I was inspired and let my thoughts run free on this topic. Greetings.
