2020 was a year of gaming

Recently Sony released their 2020 Wrap-Up to gamers around the globe. This is a personal recap of your individual PlayStation gaming history for the last year. Its a great way to look back and remember all of the wonderful times spent playing awesome PlayStation games.

My top games of 2020

This is clear proof that my favorite game of 2020 was Ghost of Tsushima. I haven’t played a game that I enjoyed this much in a long time. Both the single player and multiplayer were some of the most fun I’ve had with a video game in ages. There isn’t a thing I’d change about Ghost of Tsushima, it was the clear winner of game of the year in my mind.

Cyberpunk 2077 was also a game that I had a lot of fun with. It was lacking polish and many other things that were promised. Somehow I still had a tremendous amount of fun, playing for almost 100 hours. I eventually got 100% in Cyberpunk 2077, but that didn’t happen until January 2nd of 2021, so I cannot include that in my 2020 platinum trophy collection.

Rogue Company is a game that I never posted about, but I played religiously for a time period. It’s a free to play third person shooter that is available on all platforms and has cross-play. I didn’t even focus on getting the trophies for this game, I just had genuine fun playing it and I achieved all of them over time naturally. It is thanks to this game that I started using Discord daily. I joined a Rogue Company Discord channel to find people to party up with. Rogue Company is largely based on team play. You can try to do it lone wolf, but eventually you’ll realize you’re better off with some communication. It’s due to my need for solid teammates in this game that I now am active in many other Discord channels and have met some great friends that I talk to daily. Before I had a Discord account, but never used it really.

When I was younger I had all of the time in the world to play video games. I took that time period for granted and now I often struggle to make time to game. Luckily I still have free time to do one of the things I enjoy most. I can remember in high school starting to feel a bit shameful for the fact that I preferred playing video games instead of going to parties like most other people my age. I eventually tried the whole partying thing and that lasted a few years, it got old quickly.

It took me awhile to rediscover my love for gaming. For a few years I attempted to get into new games, but always seemed to lose interest before I completed them. In the last year I have been able to not only complete many games, but have a total blast doing so. I finally have accepted that there is nothing wrong with playing video games, it’s one of the things I enjoy. It has also been a total blessing that I have the Hive Gaming Community to share all of my gaming experiences with. The community has kept me motivated and made me feel like I have people to talk about what I’ve been playing. The added benefit of earning cryptocurrency for sharing is even further incentive to keep gaming.

My launch PS5

When I got a PS5 preorder back in September, I was so thrilled. Although securing the preorder was difficult, it was even more tough waiting two months for the PS5 to release and be delivered to me on November 12th. In the meantime while I was patiently waiting, I made a list of the things I looked forward to the most about the PS5. I also made a list of the best games to play on PS5 at launch. The anticipation was intense.

Ever since I received my PS5, my gaming life has been even better than before. Plus next-gen gaming pushed me to finally get this new TV. My gaming experience has never been better and I’m truly thankful for everything that I have.

It took me over a month after the PS5 launch day, but I eventually was able to surprise my brother with a PS5 for Christmas. I got him to convert back to PlayStation although he was with Xbox most of the last generation of gaming. It was one of the best decisions ever. Since then we have be able to share our entire gaming digital library. So he has access to all of the games I have bought since getting a launch PS4 on November 15, 2013. It’s a total of 270 video games he can play, plus we can also share any new games that we buy digitally. This saves us both a ton of money.

To further our kinship, we can now play all of our multilayer games together any time we want. No longer do we have to hope for cross-play. Plus the fact that we always have the same games guarantees that we can share our gaming experience with one another. This is huge to me since he now lives all the way in a Pennsylvania and I’m still in West Virginia.

Just last night we played Destruction All Stars, Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, and Battlefield V together. We both have the new official PS5 Pulse 3D Wireless headset, which makes our communication a breeze. We had a great time and got to share many laughs together as the craziness of all three games ensued.

Playing online multiplayer

Although I spent most of my time gaming in 2020 playing single player games, I did still partake in lots of online multiplayer. PlayStation Plus not only allows me to play online with people around the world, but it also provides 2-3 free games each month. Usually these are great games that I actually play. Often times it’s enough to keep me busy until the following month.

I had the most fun playing Ghost of Tsushima’s Legends multiplayer mode. It was incredibly difficult at times, but I was pretty good at it and determined to complete it all. I had many great times playing Legends with my friend @raizel. We both were obsessed with Ghost of Tsushima and I’m glad I got to meet him, we have a lot in common.

All 2020 Platinum trophies

The thing I am most proud about in 2020 when it comes to gaming is the 6 platinum trophies that I obtained. This took lots of time and effort to do. Two of the games were PS5 titles, so they for some reason were not included in my 2020 Wrap-Up platinum trophy count.

In the past I wrote detailed blogs about each game after I completed them, besides one of the six. I previously mentioned before that I never posted about Rogue Company, I was more focused on winning in competitive multiplayer with that one.

Onwards to 2021

Already 2021 has been a great year. I’ve gotten 100% on multiple games including Cyberpunk 2077, Maneater, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Plus I have had a lot of fun designing custom cars in NFS Heat. I wrote two blogs about that which are available here and here.
