Badges allow you to showcase what communities you are involved with on your PeakD profile. If you use PeakD, then you probably already know what badges are. As you can see from this screenshot of my profile, I have four unique badges which are displayed below my profile picture.
Badges are not only a great way to show off your favorite communities, but it also makes it easier for new people to join those communities. The Hive Gaming Community is my personal favorite community on Hive.
I had been seeing talks in The Hive Gaming Community Discord about the need for a community badge. Sure the community already has the fox logo (@derangedvisions called it a wolf in his post, so if I’m incorrect my bad). However we have many designers in our community, so it makes sense to let us get a bit more creative with the community badge. A contest was a fantastic idea! Me being a graphic designer, I was quick to work up my own creation. Let’s talk more about what I designed.
My contest entry
It was not required to use the current community logo for the design of the community badge. Despite this lack of stipulation, I was set on using the current logo since I am a huge fan of it. I think that the design is bold and done very well, I didn’t see a reason to stray from the logo that I am so used to seeing. I did think that more could be done to differentiate the badge from the regular logo.
I am pretty satisfied with how my badge design turned out. I placed the Hive Gaming Community fox logo over a unique symbol that I designed and added the Hive logo on top with the words Gaming Community at the bottom. I think this is a great way to show off the community on active members’ profiles
Just having the fox alone as the badge could have looked like an animal community, Japanese spirituality community, or some else random to many newcomers. However when adding the words gaming community at the bottom, it becomes apparent right away what it is that this badge stands for.
I’m sure many designs for this contest will be things such as a joystick or something else gaming related. I hope to see some cool competition in this contest before it ends. Me on the other hand, I chose to stick with what was already working. I feel as though the current logo just needed a couple of extra things to make it a shiny new badge for active community members.
Take a look at a few different file options below. I have the .png version without a background and the .jpg with white/black backgrounds.

What do you think of my contest entry?
Do you consider my design to be a strong entry? I personally am very happy with my completed creation. I love the symbol in the background paired with the two logos and easy to read text.
I’m able to change the colors or slightly alter this design if need be when it comes to finalizing the contest.
Good luck to all of the other designers who take a swing at creating the new Hive Gaming Community badge.
