On Friday I woke up at the crack of dawn just like I have every single day this week while on vacation. I was scrolling my feed and saw this image created by JR’s Arts. This piece of art describes how I have been feeling all week here at the beach with .
Our breakfast and lunch supply ran out for the last day, so we had to improvise. As soon as we were dressed and ready, we drove 20 minutes back to Tropical Smoothie Cafe for a couple of smoothies and a double lunch order. This allowed us to bring half of the food to the beach with us for another snack later.
The last day at Vilano Beach reminded us why we didn’t want to leave Florida. We have had 7 straight days of perfect weather. 85°F, slight winds, and clear skies. The somber feeling of our imminent departure was made slightly better by our leftover flatbreads and churros.
did some more yoga on the beach, which I happily captured. It’s difficult to do a normal yoga routine on slanted sand and endless pools of water. She is more talented than she knows, not only with yoga – but also her photography & ability to be photogenic.
You can of course see me being my extraordinary self and making silly faces. We saw dolphins for the second day in a row, so I was extra happy about that. Thursday it was brief, but on Friday we witnessed a pod jumping out of the water over the waves several times. I was immediately fascinated by this action-packed moment with true nature.
This selfie describes how we were feeling about having just swam in the Florida ocean for the last time before having to leave on Saturday morning. We are not happy at all to be headed back to West Virginia after growing so accustomed to the beach life.
Being upset about having to go back home from our vacation is not enough to keep me from being as cool as they come. I’ll miss our Airbnb’s back deck big time.
seems to always be twirling her hair. I think it’s her way of meditating during any moment. We were stuck in traffic and she was bored.
We went down to one of many boat docks to eat dinner. In the parking lot of the restaurant was a junked up Scion XB. It was badly taken care of and likely on its last leg/wheel. What’s funny is my dad drives this same exact car, except his is in far better condition. I have a feeling this one was owned by our older, cracked-out-looking, surfer dude waiter who seemed like he hadn’t spent a day away from the beach in his life.
We decided upon Hurricane Patty’s for our last dinner date in St Augustine. I had shrimp & grits and ordered teriyaki chicken with hush puppies. The food was very tasteful, but the sun was beaming in right on us. It was a great way to end our dining experience in this part of Florida.
I couldn’t resist posing in front of the boats just below the restaurant. Thankfully my beautiful girlfriend continually says okay when I ask to snap some shots.
It’s amazing to think that St Augustine was existing in a familiar fashion back in the year 1565.
We saved the local Vilano Beach Nature Boardwalk for one of our last events. This trail begins at Publix and ends at our Airbnb’s road. We went through it backwards. The walk goes underneath the Francis and Mary Usina Bridge. The trail is extremely close to us and full of cool artwork. We were there during a combination of a sunset and the first rain storm of our trip.
After the walk, we made our way towards Magic Beach Motel. We found a photo worthy fountain along the way. I love this little town of Vilano Beach. There are abandoned motels that have so much potential and many new hotels being built.
Our last moments on the beach were spent walking during the sunset. A storm was brewing, but hadn’t yet let loose. The clouds above were absolutely insane, as you will see.
I felt the first drops of rain hit my skin as we were walking through the sand towards our path back to our nest. I increased my pace to a fast walk to insure that we made it back to the Airbnb before the rain started.
I can say that we did make it home before it started raining heavy. We then began to pack our things and get the car loaded up to leave early tomorrow morning. It will be another 10+ hours drive back to home in WV. After we finished packing, we started a movie called The Possession. The wifi went out halfway through thanks to the storm. This was our first sign that even paradise is not perfect. Enjoy this last photo from our amazing trip.
This vacation was perfect. and I both needed it tremendously. I’m glad we were able to visit Vilano Beach in St Augustine, FL for the first time. I am looking forward to creating a video using all of the awesome clips from our trip. Stay tuned for that. I’ll be breaking in my new iMac properly with a movie featuring
