트럼프 대통령이 시진핑에게 북한으로의 원유 공급을 중단하라는 요청을 했다.
이건 지금까지와의 제재와는 차원이 다른데
곧장 북한 정권의 붕괴로 이어질 수 있기 때문이다.
현대 사회에서 아무리 세계적인 제재를 당하더라도
원유만 있다면 견딜수는 있다.
원유는 모든 산업의 기반이자 현대 생존의 기초이기 때문이다.
기름이 있으면 자동차를 굴리고 기계를 돌리고 생산을 할 수 있다.
농사를 짓고 공장을 돌리고 이동을 할 수 있다.
그게 현대 정부의 유지 기반이다.

그런데 그 기름이 없으면 아무것도 할 수가 없다.

중국은 선택을 해야 한다.
세계의 평화를 위해 북한을 내칠지,
아니면 미국에 대해 호시탐탐 1위 자리를 빼앗을 기회를 엿보기 위해
이 요청을 거부하여 미국과 대적할지에 대해.
전자라면 한국에는 다행이겠으나
후자라면 어쩌면 세계대전으로 비화가 될지도 모를
