Radiation can 'stick' in the material
Alpha radiation is a hydrogen particle with atomic number 2 and mass number 4. Radiation beta is an electron. Meanwhile, gamma radiation is more of an electromagnetic wave than a particle. For all practical purposes, it is impossible for this radiation to 'stick' and 'remain' to a material such as the dust attached to the apple skin.
Because gamma radiation is a waveform, it is unlike that this radiation becomes a residue. Like light, gamma-rays are just passing (while destroying / altering the structure of a bypassed object). Similarly, alpha and beta radiation, which are particles. The interaction between alpha and beta radiation with matter results in radiation being 'lost' or wasted. Of course the properties of the material can change by being hit by radiation, but the radiation itself is never attached.
So, if suppose there is preserved food using radiation, there is no need to worry that there are nuclear radiation residues in it that can make people turn into Hulk. Radiation just passes by while killing the pathogen in the food. That is all.
Fear of radiation
Fear of reality radiation has no scientific basis. Like a drug, good potential or danger is determined by the dose. Excess doses are dangerous, ordinary doses are okay, maybe even useful. Nuclear radiation only kills humans, but irrational fear of radiation successfully kills many people, primarily because of stress (which should not have happened, if people want to learn a little).
The existence of nuclear radiation is not a reason to reject nuclear power and the use of other nuclear radiation, because human life itself is in the middle of the ocean of radiation. Moreover, the radiation from the nuclear power plant is much smaller than the ocean of radiation around us. On the other hand, the proper use of radiation actually even benefits, for example to get superior rice seeds, preserving food without sodium benzoate or cure cancer.
