Men were gentlemen in that era; I have no doubt that the book holds more secrets than a post can tell us. On the other hand, it's a pity that nowadays there are few references like that, or rather, almost none. What a shame for society; it gives one a lot to think about.

In Cuba, the education system teaches Cuban History from the moment you enter primary school until you reach university, year after year, the same thing over and over. By the time you get to university, you know the heroes better than your distant family. Is it different in Australia?
