When I first came back to Hive after the hardfork over 2 years ago now, this was one of the first communities I sought out. @moeknows was kind enough to fill me in on what actually happened with the split from steem. We had conversed quite a bit back before everything happened and he was one of the few people who I respected, both for the things he wrote and for the obvious thought he put into them.
One of the first things he did was point me towards LeoFinance and I have been here ever since. I haven't written much poetry lately, but with the continuing development of LeoThreads, I ran into @dbooster while #threading. He reminded me of this place so...here I am. Back with an entry to the latest prompt (Darkness) in sonnet form.
### Fade to Black
My eyelids flutter, cracks of light seep in
So bright, they close, then open up once more.
A glimpse of beauty, alabaster skin
Suffused with life. The waves crash on the shore.
A hint of perfume lingers in the air.
Like gentle fingers running down my spine,
It tickles mem'ries teased within despair
Of love so sweet I dare not call it mine.
Awareness comes, surroundings recognized
The vision fades, reality is back.
This love, once strong, now melts before my eyes.
And eyelids close once more. I fade to black.
For darkness is the safest place to be
When light reveals the mess I've made of me.
