So today is Friday and it is officially my first day of Christmas vacation. I have 11 days off in a row! What a great feeling. So I thought some of you may want to "Have a drink with me"! A while back I wrote a post called Great Local Beers. I love buying local when I can. Craft breweries are everywhere now. I would highly recommend to all of you readers to experiment and find a beer that is local to you. Then you can share one of your local beers with me. I promise if you recommend it then I will try it (if I can find it).

So lets get on with the promised drink we were going to have together.

This week I found a Blonde Ale by the New Ontario Brewing Company. Bear Runner
I will be honest, the main reason I purchased this beer was because of the witty quote on the can.

As you can see on the back of the can this beer was brewed in North Bay Ontario. So it may not be right from my hometown, but is still from my home province. They also have another witty write up. Hopefully the beer tastes as good as their Canadian humour.

As soon as I pour it I start to have my doubts. It pours with almost no foam. In fact as you can see in the picture it almost looks flat. There are bubbles raising up to the top of the glass, so there is carbonation, but not that typical white foam that you would expect at the top of your beer. It definitely wouldn't look good in a beer commercial. The colouration does look great. It was a yellow/golden colour. It was also a bit misty. It gives me a little bit of hope that it will be filled with some bold flavours. I do enjoy a heavier, less clear beers.

I took a whiff and was able to smell the hops. Maybe a bit of a lemon smell as well.
Okay, here we go.... now for the fun part.
"Cheers to cold Beers!"

Well lets just say that the taste was a bit disappointing. There were some half decent flavours in there but the overall taste was a bit bland and flat. The after taste was a bit fruity but there wasn't really any pizazz in this brew.
I was still able to manage completing the pint so the score couldn't be any lower than a 3. In fact I think I would give it a 4 beer cheers out of 10.
If someone were to serve me one of these at a gathering, I would still drink it. If someone offered me a choice between this and another beer, I would most likely pick the other....

Anyway, if you decided to crack open a cold one and have a drink with me, let me know what you were drinking so that I can give it a try!

Happy Holidays!
