Up the stairs again
____________________
I walk up the painted cosmic stairs —
— yes, those steps unsightly, up to door
mundane — those coarse and homely sketchèd steps
approximating loveliness in vain.
Majestic more by far is downèd log:
e'en gnarl of most unsightly vine.
Yet opulent is made the crass abode
by leisurely reflections cast within.
The suburbs are all mottled through with mud —
with plastic detritus and cubic crud,
and yet — those stairs above the searing street
make portal for my sore and weary feet.
